At Bao by Kaya, our story began with a bold decision to leave behind the corporate world and follow a passion for food. In 2014, our founders—once professionals at top audit firms in New York—took a leap of faith. Inspired by their parents, who ran dim sum restaurants in Hong Kong during the 1990s, they were driven by a love for authentic Asian flavors. Their goal was simple: bring the rich, bold taste of Taiwanese street food to the heart of NYC.

Our success didn’t stop there. We became regular vendors at some of NYC’s most iconic markets, including UrbanSpace, the Winter Village at Bryant Park, Governor’s Island, and the Hester Street Fair. Each event gave us the chance to share our love for Taiwanese cuisine with even more people, building a loyal following along the way.

Starting as a humble street food vendor, Bao by Kaya quickly made waves in the NYC food scene. Our signature Gua Bao—a soft, steamy white bun filled with savoury meats—became an instant hit. The authentic flavours and fresh ingredients earned us a finalist spot for Rookie of the Year at the 2015 Vendy Awards—the Oscars of street food. This recognition fuelled our passion to keep growing and serving even better food.
